One cool kid – Southern California Children’s Photographer

Honestly….I have the best clients!  As a photographer, you fall in love when you look through your camera and see a face like this.  Logan had a natural ease in front of the camera.  For the most part I did not give him directions.  I let Logan be Logan.  That is the way I love kids to be… loganweb2loganblog5loganblog1loganweb6loganblog161loganweb4What an amazing sky there was that night.  We were right on the verge of having a storm and it was so cold!  This shot was the one Logan wanted, so we put up with the cold and numb fingers just to get it.  I think it was worth it!loganweb3

There was plenty of silliness from this photoshoot too!  I am pretty sure he had fun!logan1

My sickness…

I have this sickness (well right now I have two, but I will share the fun one with you first) I love to collect chairs.  I stop and pick up chairs if I see them on the side of the road and they look crafty to me.   While driving home from my friend Sarah’s house (she shares my sickness) I saw this fun looking chair and I had to pick it up.  Once morning time came, Doug spotted my new find in our backyard and was a little less thrilled with my new baby.  I have about 5 or 6 chairs sitting in the yard waiting to be worked on 🙂  For now I will share this one.  When I picked it up I noticed that it had white paint on the fabric…anyone know how to get paint off of fabric?  Still, I painted the wooden part of the chair white and then distressed it.

The neighborhood kids played in our yard and when our adopted daughter (okay she is not really our adopted daughter, she just plays at our house all the time) saw me photographing the chair she asked me to take some pix of her.  I put her in a dress I just made for Kimmie and took a few of her on my new chair.  Isn’t she a cutie?

On to my second sickness….I had been coughing for a while and did not take it seriously.  After weeks of coughing I went to the doctors and they said I have bronchitis, gave me some antibiotics and sent me on my way.  I had to go back today for them to check and make sure my lungs were clear.  She paused at my bottom left lung for a bit longer than normal and said it sounds like the start of pneumonia.  Yikes!  So now I am on another round of antibiotics and an inhaler.   I am going to do my best to rest and take it easy.   So now I am off to bed!!

American Girl

I am not sure who is more excited about Kimmie’s first American Girl doll?  I was so happy that my mom got her this cute little doll.  She has barely put it down since she got it.   This morning she even put it in the baby doll stroller and pushed it all over her brother’s school.   I love having a little girl!

Rising Hope – {Southern California Family Photographer}

I love to follow an amazing story and this family has one!  They are in the midst of adopting a little girl from Russia.  Right now they are going through the beginning stages and it is amazing to hear of God’s love for them and the love they have for a little girl they have not yet met.  I am so excited to follow their story and watch their family grow!  Here’s their blog http://www.ourrisinghope.blogspot.com/  You are likely to hear of some future fundraising from me for their trip to Russia.  If you read this blog and you are interested in doing a photoshoot with a portion of the proceeds going to help in the adoption costs, send me an email and let me know!

My boy

Ryan – Mom am I lucky that I am the only one in our family with blonde hair?  Me – yes I do think you are lucky!  Do you like being a blondie?  Ryan – yes I think blonde hair is cool.

I do love his blonde hair and I have often wondered over the past few years if his hair would turn brown?  So far he is my blonde haired, tan skinned little man.  I love him!

Joy {pregnany} – Southern California Maternity Photographer

I love when someone asks questions like “where are we going to take these pictures?” and I answer with “some burned down, boarded up house.”   I must sound crazy with my ideas, but I love when someone like Joy comes along and gives me total artistic freedom.    This is the first of many mini-shoots you will see of Joy pregnant.  She has been my best friend for years and I adore the fact that she is open to all my crazy ideas!   She looks great 5 months pregnant with her little baby bump.   At the end her cute daughter joined us for a few pictures.  I am so excited to meet her next little girl!

Miss Ella

Tara and I laughed as I took these pictures on her front porch.  We were answering the life long question from kids “Where do babies come from?”  So here is the answer…”they are dropped off on the front porch!”  She can tell her kids “See, mommy even has pictures to prove it”

Ella is just beautiful and looks so much like her two olders sisters and one older brother.  She is a doll 🙂

Mommy’s Day 09′

I had such a great Mother’s Day!  Doug took care of me all weekend.  I shopped at Victoria Gardens on Saturday.  Then on Sunday we went to church, california rolls for lunch, then to see the grandmas and Doug even watched the movie Bride Wars with me at night.  What a great guy!  I am so blessed to have two beautiful and healthy children, a great husband and wonderful parents.  I hope all the moms had a great day!

Now you can see what happens when you set the camera on self timer in SanSai 🙂mommyday6

Gina {pregnancy} – Southern California Maternity Photographer

Well the time has come for me to share one of my favorite sessions with you.  Gina is one of the most amazing women I know.  She is kind, sweet, beautiful, cries easily at great pictures of her family.  My list of reasons I love her could go on and on!   We were so lucky to be able to get into one of the oldest houses in Glendora while her Dad managed the property and while they did work on the house.  After part of the session there at the house we headed out to find some local old buildings.  We laughed and had a great time seeing what we could find.  Gina is so natural and relaxed in front of the camera.  Really she makes my job easy 🙂

1st official post!

Well this is a long time coming for me.  I have been wanting, wishing, hoping for a new blog for a long time now…and it is finally here!   I think for me this is well worth the wait.  A couple of months back I started to really evaluate my business.  I think that always happens at the start of a new year and I realized that I wanted to make some changes.  The first major change is a name change.  When I (or we) started this biz I was cautious about using my name, Cheryl Yost (and yes many of you know me a Cherie 🙂 ) because I felt like everyone would assume that all of the art work is mine and that Doug would not get the credit due to him.  So just to clear things up…Doug (my wonderful husband) does shoot with me and he is great!  For the most part though, this business is my baby and I am the primary photographer.  So a name change has happened!  From now on I will be using www.cherylyost.com and this blog.   I am so excited to be able to get back in the swing of blogging since I have neglected my old blogspot blog for some time now.  Check back often.  I have been saving some of my favorite shoots to share here, so I have plenty to blog!

Just in case you want to go back to the old blog here it is  www.inspiredreflectionsphotography.blogspot.com
